One Month With The DJI Avata – This drone will fit with our business

Mid-November 2022 we received our Avata FPV Drone from DJI.  The Avata wasn’t on my radar screen for new drones for our business.  Honestly I wasn’t certain a FPV Drone would fit our work at all. After a month of using the drone, my opinion has changed.

I’m happy to say, the Avata does have a place in our workflow for certain types of job sites.  Also, the Avata is just too much fun to fly!  So I had to come up with a justification for adding it to our inventory of drones.  Rather than tell you, I can show you with our latest YouTube videos covering the Avata.

The latest videos about the DJI Avata FPV Drone

The Avata, with its Motion Controller, is actually very easy to fly, even for total novices.  The motion controller makes you think more of a console game controller than a regular drone control setup.  In our case, Jodi was up and running with the Avata in no time at all, with no previous drone flights.  And while it took me a day or two to get over “motion sickness” with the goggles, I’m settling in with the drone too.

Where does it fit at AZ Drone?

After a lot of indoor testing with the Avata, we’ve found this drone could offer a great way to capture building interiors.  Additionally, documenting the interiors of newly constructed homes is another use case.  As we do get requests for 360 degree virtual tours, and home interior images as well, the Avata could fit within these additional services beyond construction site monitoring.  Interior video tours have been gaining in popularity, so work on behalf of realtors and sellers is pretty straightforward.

As we develop new services for our clients we’ll keep you update here at AZ Drone, as well as on our YouTube channel.

  1. Hi Rich, thanks for the great review. I have a new Avata sitting in the box and haven’t set it up yet. I saw Greg from Pilot Institute mentioned similar problems with having the phone hooked up while flying. I think I’ll leave it in the box until after New Year’s in hopes that DJI clears up or clarifies the issues you identified.
    Thanks again!

Glad you enjoyed the review Doug! Overall I have been enjoying the Avata. It’s a lot of fun to fly. The recent firmware update hasn’t totally ruined the experience, but it is annoying. As we progress with the Avata we’ll post updates here and on YouTube as well.
